He is correct to some extent. But he cannot live out of the system. So he must adapt and perform to succeed . Let understanding the subject precede memorizing.

Ask him to limit his videos, not give them up all together. Guide him about his chosen career.

You must try to involve the student in class activities and give him small duties which make him feel connected to the class. Try to encourage him for sports or whatever he is interested in.

Counseling and disciplining is the only way. Use positive reinforcement. Start appreciating them in class when they do well.
