Eating snacks is very often a way of finding comfort. The student is trying to fill up a vacuum created by the passing away of her mother. Talk to her about the damage to her health and loss of reputation. But do not insult her. Be kind and don't make it public. Ask her father to send her to spend time with her aunts and relatives when possible so she gets needed affection. Ask him to buy her some snacks himself off and on. Engage her in some extra curricular activity in school.

Allow him to leave some of his books/notebooks in school so he does not have to carry them everyday.

Try to teach maths in an interesting and easy manner. Give some easy problems to solve first so that students feel they can do it, then move on to difficult ones.

Make the child understand the importance of making a future for himself. Ask the foster parents to discipline him without being harsh.

It is a difficult situation. I hope you have spoken to his mother. If he is already not interested in studies, this might be a cooked up reason. Suggest skill training for him.

You need to give a detailed talk to students that these are mere superstitions and misleading. Give them examples.

Do remember that attraction towards the opposition sex is very natural at this age. Do not shame or scold the student for it. Ignore it unless there is a disciplinary problem. You cannot wish it away altogether.

You have use the right approach. Also, give him opportunities to be the leader in small ways. Have him read out in the class or take part in a discussion. Give him some attention. Most of the rowdy students just need attention and appreciation.

It is important to make them understand the seriousness of attending classes and how it will affect their future. The classes should also be more interesting. Try to discipline them without abusing or insulting them, which will make them resent the teacher and class even more.

Seriousness in studies and exams is linked to many factors. Motivation levels, engagement with the subject and future plans for a career.
