It is happening because they don't know the value of the study. So, make them aware of this thing that the study is the passport of the bright future. And if they want to make their future bright then they should give some quality time to study. Make sure you take some follow-up sessions on this topic.

First of all, we should try to identify the problem and only then we can find a solution. So try to find the reason why the student is in depression. And, once you will be able to identify the cause then I am sure that with some counseling sessions you can definitely help her to figure out this problem.
